Coupons to Trade

June 2nd, 2006 at 08:48 pm

Yesterday I received a pile of good coupons from a store, which I posted. $2 on any Huggies, including the wipes, which are on sale for $2 or so. No response from this site, or the trains...I know there is a huge preference between Pampers users and Huggies users, but hey, soap, bath mits...doggie wipes...

However, from another forum, I've been swamped! Requests for 50 - 100. Evidently they are selling on eBay hot and heavy.

Innocent me, I've never been a coupon trader, no experience, but my trains can always use good coupons if someone wants to trade...or just send a stamp to cover postage.

So, I've been getting IM popups faster than I can read my mail, look at a forum. Barely managed to log in. Amazing. I think my email has around 200 messages in it! When I ask, everyone says they personally use that many wipes in their stockpile, they aren't planning on selling them.

But it's been wild. I've started telling people I can only to 10 to a person, which sounds good, $20 in savings, right?

Most people are okay with it, some want MORE!

So, my random act of kindness to share what I can't use is, well, stressful. Serious coupon traders put wall street and minute traders to shame.

I'm still waiting to see if any member of our trains needs any before I donate them all to others and go back to having a normal life Wink

Again, the cynical me doubts that all of these people really need 10 or more for their personal stockpile. It really disturbs me when people try to take advantage, like you said in your last post about those who want the trains to take the coupons and not put any back. Why can't people appreciate the fact that you're trying to do a good deed and be fair about it without trying to make a buck off of you? Frustrating...

I thought people would think, wow, *10* is fantastic! I was shocked with the first three requests, PMs all wanting at least 50! I asked, how can you use that many? I mean, even stockpiling. Evidently I don't appreciate how many baby wipes a new mom really goes through. I actually responded that I didn't have that many, so if they were selling, it wouldn't be worth their while. Responses were that they had LOTS of kids, or were helping needy moms...

Of course, I sent 10 - 20 where I could, no more. Cynical me wonders how badly I got played. But the forums indicated people were actually going to buy these on eBay, and that just sounded RIDICULOUS to me. It's illegal to sell coupons, for one thing.

    Sigh.

But it's ironic, all the babies in our trains, and no one needs Huggies products. A sale at $2 each and a $2 coupon, I'd stockpile, too. Hmmm...brain fry.

I'm either cheap enough, or old enough..............hmmmm guess I'm both, but I can't imagine using a baby wipe. Wash cloths for me and any babies here I'm afraid. Coupon or not.

I know that people on a forum I use are wild for them. I have two on hold for a trade. It's crazy, they are even asking like .60 a piece.

My suggestion for the future - say that you have one or two coupons and need a self-addressed envelope - then those that are really interested will only do it and you can put in extras if you want.

I agree, but the coupons expire shortly, so I simply asked for a stamp in return. Never said I had THAT many.

Put a stop to it today...thank goodness for the DAGG moderator who told me how to tell people all were taken. Gave the rest to HER! Yeah! I love random acts of kindness.

Still, strange that no one on our trains or site wanted any. A $4 tub of wipes for FREE, based on the month sale...

Hi, I have a new nephew and I can really USE these coupons, if you still have any. If you need something in exchange, let me know and I would be happy to do some trading with you.

I donated them all to someone to relieve my stress. I still have a small amount that are earmarked for someone who needed them, but I don't have her info. If she does not claim them, I will let you know.

They are selling on another trading site at 50 cents a piece, and higher on eBay! GASP.

It's evolving...and it isn't free. Manufacturers make up the costs in other areas...and it's becoming VERY common for the grocer to price the FREE product at a higher price than the value of the coupon. Issues abound, but in the end, coupons continue because they MAKE more money in sales and promotions than they cost the manufacturer. BIG TIME. So, it's just up to us consumers to figure out how to USE them to OUR benefit.

NZ, well, have spent a bit of time there. Friends in Palmerstown North, Wellington, worked all over the north island. More time in AU, most in Japan, Korea, IN, Singapore...well, all over the formerly-known-as-pac-rim. But nope, I'm a US girl. Moms from Canada.

Okay, maybe we will think about how we can implement a form of trading on the site. www.savingadvice.com, or www.grocerycouponguide.com. Definitely not in my blog Big Grin
