My Savings of the Day is a free Ziploc! and other depressing stuff

March 1st, 2006 at 11:32 pm

Okay, actually it was funny. I went through the giant stack of mail, mostly catalogs, looking for my freebies and rebates and coupons. There was only one envelope. I opened it --- and it was indeed one sandwich size ziploc sample and a coupon. DH walked in and said "that's their big marketing promotion, ONE bag? Are they crazy?"

And that was it.

DH did give me the "big news", that he reviewed our expeditures for the last two months, and our grocery bills had been reduced by 75%. Wow. Has he NOT paid attention at the check out counter?

I guess I'm just in a mood. I'm frustrated with organizing the coupon trains, which I usually enjoy, but today I'm wondering why I ever offered to coordinate these. Trying to balance my time, wanting to help, not knowing if it's better if I post freebies or coupons or hunt more down or clean out the expired and redundant posts, or just hang out in the forums handing out opinions that don't help anyone.

The truth is, I just want to help where I can because things seem so helpless here. Waiting for my father to die, trying to time our visit out there to see him one last time, but not having an answer as to if he has a week or a month or six months. Getting my DS through another round of chemo, caring for the little one, and not feeling like anything makes any difference.

I do feel SO much more like SPENDING than SAVING. And, I LIKE getting great deals, even if we don't NEED them, I WANT them. Getting $50 of gourmet coffee for $10 delivered free to my home is great. I am tired of driving 45 minutes each way into town to get DHs coffee. Then, I feel guilty, who am I to care about the price of coffee when he is living on borrowed time too. 1% chance of living 5 years, and we are on year #4.

But, this is when saving is the most important. If you give in and blow your money it won't be there when the real crisis hits. I've known that all my life. So, time to dig in and dig out. Saving is not about FEELINGS. It's about LIVING.

BTW, the BocaJava.com coffee is fabulous. Entertainment.com has a $25 g/c for them with the book, which I used on a separate order. Charged the shipping back to My Points. Great Deal.

I understand your father is dying? Is your son also? I am so very sorry for you. I have lost all of my family, so i can relate.

You too, huh? I haven't been blogging much since I've been so down about my own mother. Looks like the Alzheimer's is really kicking in. Didn't want to face it. Now I hate being home and shopping (or couponing/saving) is the only release.

I know exactly how you feel, hon.

    Oh, Ima,

Yes, my father was diagnosed in December that he would not last another week. Since then, lots of opinions, but my mother has a touch of Alzheimer's and isn't too clear on what is happening. My sister is out there trying to help, but she is going through breast cancer that's spread. My husband is supposed to have already died from his cancer, 1% chance of making it one year, let alone five, and yet here he is Smile My pup of 14 years died suddenly and rather horribly in December, too.

Some days are just a bit rougher than others. What do you do when everyone is gone?

I am so thankful that I still have my wonderful husband. I lost all my parents, grandparents, aunts uncles cousins and sister by the time I hit my mid thirties. I have been all alone since then, but as long as I have my husband I will be ok. All I can say is, get yourself a new puppy and believe in miracles! We will all be here for you.

I too read your posts and cannot imagine what you are going through. I just hope that you can draw on us for help and support as much as we are able. You can write and rant and cry and scream and feel frustrated as much as you want here and we will all understand and help in any way possible.

I lost someone very close to me 4 and a half years ago as we were talking about marrying and I think i have become a stronger, better person because of it. I hope that if there is anything you need we can help you.

IMA: imagine us as your long lost family. and now it will number in the hundreds and you will hear from us often!

    You both have my prayers.

    If you need anything.

I'm LOL today, because I decided I would USE that ziploc, and the double seal held and the whole bag ripped down the side!

Hang in there and take the days one at a time. I had a rough week with my wife when her heart condition started acting up again - you just have to appreaciate the days and try not to get frustrated when there isn't a whole lot you can do.

Your hard work is always much appreciated here, but don't forget to take time out for yourself too Smile

If you haven't heard this song by Donnie McClurkin, you need to.

    It's called "Stand".

(What do you do) when you've done all you can
And it seems like it's never enough
And what do you say when your friends turn away
    And you're all alone
Tell me what do you give when you've given your all
And it seems like you can't make it through
Well you just stand, when there's nothing left to do
You just stand, watch the Lord see you through
Yes after you've done all you can, you just stand

Tell me how do you handle the guilt of your past
Tell me how do you deal with the shame
And how can you smile while your heart has been broken
And filled with pain filled with pain
Tell me what do you give when you've given your all
And it seems like you can't make it through
Child you just stand when there's nothing left to do
You just stand watch the Lord see you through
Yes after you've done all you can, you just stand

(Stand) and be sure (and be sure)
Be not entangled in that bondage again, you just stand
    (Stand) and endure (and endure)
For God has a purpose yes God has a plan, tell me
(What do you do) When you've done all you can
And it seems like you can't make it through
Child you just...stand (stand) you just stand (stand) stand (stand)
Don't you dare give up (you just)

    Through the storm (stand)
    Stand through the rain (stand)
    Through the hurt (stand)
Yeah through the pain (you just)

Don't you bow (stand) and dont you bend (stand)
Don't give up (stand) no dont give in (you just)
Hold on (stand) , just be strong (stand)
God will step in (stand), it won't be long no no no(you just)

After you've done all you can (after you've done all you can)
After you've done all you can (after you've done all you can)
After you've gone through the hurt (after you've done all you can)
After you've gone through the pain oh my (after you've done all you can)
After you've gone through the storm (after you've done all you can)
After you've gone through the rain (after you've done all you can)

    Prayed and cried x 4
After you've done all you can....you just ...
    Stand.

    --------

God won't solve all your problems for you, but if you lean on him you'll find the strength to get through.

What do you do when you are all alone? You become a foster parent and adopt. That is what I have done. I adopted (a foster baby that was 6 days old when I rec him) when I was 60 yo. We are now 8yo and 67 yo and happy even tho we have had some health problems a long the way.

Thanks for the reminder. One of my favorite songs to run to is "stand" on one of the annual WOW Gospel collections. I haven't listened recently, with all the events going on. Time to hit the treadmill or weights again and be reminded of the power of faith.
